Founded in 1921 by Stanley Robbins as a regional manufacturer of inner tubes, Robbins Tire and Rubber Company was the predecessor of Robbins LLC, which grew to become a major international supplier of inner tubes, retreading materials and commercial flooring products.

Poncet Davis Sr. purchased Robbins Tire and Rubber Company in the early 1940’s and is currently wholly owned by Poncet Davis Jr. In 1945 Mr. Davis Sr. purchased a second inner tube plant in Tuscumbia, Alabama from the government as World War II concluded. The tubeless tire appeared in 1948 and many suppliers abandoned inner tubes. Robbins continued to enjoy a strong demand for inner tubes until the equipment was sold to Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. in 1995.

Robbins entered into the flooring products business in the early 1950’s and gained international reputation as a quality supplier of commercial flooring products. The floor covering plant was sold to Marley PLC of England in 1997.

Also in the early 1950’s Robbins added tread rubber and curing tubes for the mold cure retreading industry. In the 1960’s precure retreading started to emerge and in 1971 Robbins added precure tread rubber, precure envelopes and curing tubes to its line of products.

In 1994 Robbins purchased Ultima Rubber Company of Social Circle, Georgia and moved all tread rubber manufacturing to Social Circle and became a major factor in the mold cure, precure and custom rubber mixing industries. Ultima Rubber was sold to The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1997.

In June of 2002 Robbins purchased the assets and technology of Presti Rubber Products, Inc. of New Britain, PA.

Presti Rubber Products was a producer and distributor of retreading envelopes for light truck through large OTR envelopes, using compression molding technology for the light, medium and heavy duty truck tires.

The Presti equipment has been relocated to the Muscle Shoals, AL facility and in the near future all envelopes produced for use in the retreading of light, medium and heavy duty truck tires will be manufactured using the compression molding technology.

The sale of Ultima to Goodyear did not include the Muscle Shoals plant that produced curing tubes and envelopes or the custom mix sales volume being produced in Social Circle.

The Custom mix volume at Social Circle was moved to Muscle Shoals and grew until the then current equipment capacity was filled and a new Krupp GK-250 intermeshing rotor mixer was added in 2004.
In July of 2004 Robbins purchased the Hoover-Hanes plant in Tallapoosa, GA giving an additional custom mixing capacity of 195 million pounds annually as well as a dedicated color mixing unit and a 72” inverted L calender.

Robbins now distributes inner tubes and focuses our many years of manufacturing experience on producing and distributing high quality curing tubes and envelopes to the retreading industry and specialized custom mixed rubber compounds to other rubber product manufacturing companies. Robbins is the world’s largest manufacturer of envelopes for the precure retreading process.

Robbins is ISO 9001 – 2000 Certified.
